Room to Move, Room to Grow: How Other Cities Expanded Street Capacity

Room to Move, Room to Grow: How Other Cities Expanded Street Capacity

This is a free event, but donations to Movement are always welcome!

Metro Vancouver is expected to grow significantly in the coming decades. We know that if our region doesn't have a reliable alternative to driving, our streets and our economy will grind to a halt. The good news is that similar regions have found a way to increase street capacity by making transit faster and more reliable.

How did cities like Seattle overcome the barriers to road space reallocation? How did they turn opponents into allies? Movement: Metro Vancouver Transit Riders is inviting transit professionals from Seattle and New York to share their knowledge on major transit priority transformations.

Attendees will be able to anonymously ask the presenters questions through an app.

What the heck is Movement?

Movement is a new non-profit focused on addressing the barriers to better transit in Metro Vancouver. We've seen what's possible when riders speak up for better transit, drawing inspiration from groups like Transit Alliance in Miami and TTCRiders in Toronto. There are now one million riders in Metro Vancouver. We ride transit at a higher rate than any other region in Canada or the US, aside from New York! When we speak up, we can make better transit possible.
